Vinton Municipal Electric Utility will participate again in the 2009 Change A Light, Change The World program. From October through December 2009 our customers are eligible for special pricing that will allow them to purchase Energy Star® qualified compact fluorescent light bulbs for as little as $0.99 at participating dealers.  A limit 12 bulbs per customer applies.

Beginning July 1, 2009 VMEU added Home Energy Audits to their Energy Efficiency program. Contact the VMEU office @ 319-472-4813 to schedule a home energy audit. These audits are being conducted in conjunction with Alliant Energy for a total home energy audit for both gas and electric.

Beginning July 1, 2009 VMEU added rebates for refrigerators and freezers larger than 10 cubic feet in size. The rebate for freezers will be $25.00 and refrigerators are $50.00. We will offer limited appliance recycling for working units of window air-conditioners, refrigerators and freezers when new units are purchased. Take that working second unit out of the basement or garage and  receive a reward for doing so. Customers will receive a reward of $25 for recycling working window air-conditioners and $50 for working refrigerators and freezers. Call our office at 319-472-4813 to arrange pickup of your units.

The following information pertains to the rebate requirements.

6,000 to 7,999 Btu; 10.7 EER

8,000 to 13,999 Btu; 10.8 EER

14,000 to 19,999 Btu; 10.7 EER

20,000 Btu or greater; 9.4 EER

LIMIT 1 PER METER LOCATION

Available to any VMEU customer that replaces an existing heating system or builds new and utilizes an Energy Star® labeled air to air heat pump with electric resistance back up. The Utility will rebate single package equipment air source heat pumps having a minimum HSPF of 8.0, and split system having a minimum HSPF of 7.6. Rebates will start at $80.00 per ton on units meeting the minimum qualifications. For units exceeding the minimum, an additional $40.00 per ton, per HSPF unit will be rebated.

Example Customer installs a 3 ton split system with a rating of 8.5 HSPF

($80.00 x 3) + ((8.5 - 7.6) x ($40 x 3)) = $348.00

LIMIT 1 PER METER LOCATION

Available to any VMEU customer that replaces an existing heating system or builds new and utilizes an Energy Star® labeled water to air heat pump with electric resistance back up. The Utility will rebate ground source heat pumps which are Energy Star® labeled and have a minimum EER of 14.1 (COP 3.3) at $175 per ton. For units exceeding 14.1 EER, an additional $125 per EER will be rebated. MULTI-STAGE UNITS WILL BE CALCULATED BY DIVIDING THE SUM OF THE RATINGS FOR EACH STAGE BY THE NUMBER OF STAGES.

Example; Customer installs a 3 ton unit with a rating of 16.1 EER.

(3 x $175) + ((16.1 - 14.1) x $125) = $775.00
