Home Energy Audit (No cost to customer)

Central Air-Conditioner Rebate ($150 or $250)

Room Air-Conditioner Rebate ($50) and recycling reward ($25)

Vinton Municipal Electric Utility will participate again in the 2011 Change A Light, Change The World program. From October through December 2011 our customers are eligible for special pricing that will allow them to purchase Energy Star® qualified compact fluorescent light bulbs for as little as $0.99 at participating dealers.  A limit 12 bulbs per customer applies.

Beginning July 1, 2009 VMEU added Home Energy Audits to their Energy Efficiency program. Contact the VMEU office @ 319-472-4813 to schedule a home energy audit. These audits are being conducted in conjunction with Alliant Energy for a total home energy audit for both gas and electric.

Beginning July 1, 2009 VMEU added rebates for refrigerators and freezers larger than 10 cubic feet in size. The rebate for freezers will be $25.00 and refrigerators are $50.00. We will offer limited appliance recycling for working units of window air-conditioners, refrigerators and freezers when new units are purchased. Take that working second unit out of the basement or garage and  receive a reward for doing so. Customers will receive a reward of $25 for recycling working window air-conditioners and $50 for working refrigerators and freezers. Call our office at 319-472-4813 to arrange pickup of your units.

The following information pertains to the rebate requirements.

Only those products that are Energy Star® labeled and meet the following guidelines will qualify.

Central Air Conditioner with SEER >=14.0 for units <65,000 Btuh  ($150)

Central Air Conditioner with SEER >15 for units <65,000 Btuh ($250)

LIMIT 1 PER METER LOCATION

Only those products that are Energy Star® labeled and meet the following guidelines will qualify.

Less than 6,000 Btu; 10.7 EER

6,000 to 7,999 Btu; 10.7 EER

8,000 to 13,999 Btu; 10.8 EER

14,000 to 19,999 Btu; 10.7 EER

20,000 Btu or greater; 9.4 EER

$50.00 REBATE

LIMIT 1 PER METER LOCATION

Available to any VMEU customer that replaces an existing heating system or builds new and utilizes an Energy Star® labeled air to air heat pump with electric resistance back up. The Utility will rebate single package equipment air source heat pumps based on the following:

SEER >= 14.5 & HSPF >= 8.2 and split system having a minimum HSPF of 7.6. ($200)

SEER>=16.0 & HSPF=8.8 ($400)

LIMIT 1 PER METER LOCATION

Available to any VMEU customer that replaces an existing heating system or builds new and utilizes an Energy Star® labeled water to air heat pump with electric resistance back up. The Utility will rebate Geothermal heat pumps which are Energy Star® labeled and have a minimum EER of 14.1 (COP 3.3) for systems 180,000 Btuh or 15 tons or less. ($1,500)

COMMERCIAL LIGHTING PROGRAM

Available to any VMEU commercial customer that replaces existing T12 fixtures, mercury vapor or Metal Halide with energy efficient units. Rebates will be based on watts saved per fixture replaced. Rebate value will be $0.30 per watt saved.
